Cold War, Revisited.

Amongs US neocons and assorted warmongers, Cold War nostalgia has been widespread lately. Just compare the Cold War with the Global War on Terror. The Cold War gives more thrills and much more terrorizing than the Global War on Terror. The Cold War is about nuclear armageddon. The death and destruction of all things. The assertion of which 'Values' are more superior.

The Global War on Terror by the warmongers got off to a decent start, with Al Qaeda and the 'axis of evil' to go after, but it turned out to be a disastrous. Maybe it was because having a war on terror never made much sense. Maybe it was because the US quickly ran out of targets in Afghanistan and then became targets themselves in Iraq and now in Afghanistan. Fighting a full scale guerilla warfare inflict heavy losses. Maybe it's because Osama bin Laden, who seemed like an excellent candidate for arch-enemy, vanished. Maybe it's because US sponsored torture didn't sit well with most Americans, who had actually taken to heart all that stuff about how won the Cold War through power of their values.

Now, thanks to events in Georgia, everyone can put the tedium of the Global War on Terror behind and return to the Cold War. The western war party are now bangging the drums of the old Cold War. The arch-enemy Russia has returned and threatens to wipe out the free world. There is more money to be made for the Industrial Military Complex with the resurrection of Russia as arch-enemy. A bonanza in military spending – billions of additional dollars for anti-missile weapons systems, larger armies, construction of new bases in Eastern Europe.

Still, despite the risks to humanity, the rewards of a revived Cold War is huge. With fatter defense budgets and greater demand for anti-Russian propaganda, this will benefit military contractors, neocon theorists and politicians who again can exploit the fears of the American people. A renewed Cold War will also provide cover and shelter for the disastrous Global War on Terror.
